to the prestigious award
***
the word peace May not be familiar to the general public. These are just words that are often heard by scholars. in social sciences This term is often referred to when discussing non-violent solutions. The person who invented this word was a world important person in 2016 (by UNITED NATIONS) that is Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn. Understanding the word Peace Prachadham is not merely a transcription or translation. But it is important to understand the person who invented the word. The way of thinking and the context of the person who invented the word is equally important to understand the meaning of the word deeply. This article will explain the origins and places that should have the principle of peace. And what is the principle of peace and democracy?
understand the word violence The origin of the presentation of the principles of peace
In human history, conflicts are often inevitable. which is the source of violence We may be able to say that one of the greatest concerns human beings have been trying to find a solution to in all ages. It is inevitable that "violence", which sounds superficially, may be a word that is often heard. and turns out to be boring Because humans and violence can go hand in hand. if there is no law religious rules and humanitarian principles Even the current strength may change form from the past. Because violence is limited by many powers known as statutes. and more organized especially in the democratic world Violence is harder to deal with. But we often see violence in movies and dramas instead, even as humans try to avoid violence. But many times, violence has been unleashed in these media. until the violence seems to be a common thing for human beings It circulates in many dimensions of human beings. But on the other hand, violence is undesirable to humans as well. The question is, what is the solution to conflict so that it does not lead to violence?
Although violence in the present is more difficult than in the past. But it's not that it can't happen. As long as this world is full of great benefits And when it happens once, it's often a concern. Because today's advanced world has learned countless times from history. whether genocide or world war Humans have learned more about solving violence. But the perpetrators of violence can learn to use violence in a different way. until it is an issue "Disguised violence", that is, violence may not be outright killing. But violence takes various forms. more in accordance with the efforts to eliminate the violence as well It is therefore important to be aware of the violence. In particular, finding some principles to uphold, which for Prof. Dr. Iill Ungphakorn, is "Santi Prachadham".
what is peace And how can it be used to combat violence?
As long as this world still has benefits to gain Violence resulting from conflicts with human society is therefore difficult to separate. But in a democratic world We have the right to shout "I must not be killed, I should not be bullied" because of the greater power of the people. The people are protected by the state. But the state also wants people to support it. but whenever democracy is used to refer to rights until the powerful can't give the people what they want Then the word democracy may be reduced from the powerful. or even being interpreted by an authority and referenced in their own style This is a distorted use of democracy until the true meaning of the word is reduced. Conflict and violence are interspersed as well. and need to be solved Of course, Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn also saw this point.
So speaking of democracy Therefore, it is necessary for the principle of peace. “People must have goodness, truth and beauty as the main principles in their lives. His ideal society asked for four principles: (1) competence, (2) liberty, (3) justice, (4) benevolence.” that Prachadham, because it sees that democracy has been used to the extent that it is used (used by those in power to refer to legitimacy), and Prachadham calls for two main points: (1) simple rights and liberties and (2) participation. To determine the destiny of society [1], it is impossible to talk about peace and democracy without talking about democracy. Because the principles of peace and democracy also originate from democracy. but to apply it to the conditions of Thai society while Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn was still alive more, all that Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn had said. In order for this to happen effectively, there should be "peace" as well, because people will be able to exercise their rights, liberties, or participate in determining their destiny should also be done in peace. This was to avoid conflicts that would lead to violence as well.
peace with Thai society today?
In the era when Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn played a role in thinking at that time, it was during the severe political conflict in Thailand. to the point that curry was repeatedly killed The important question is Can peace and democracy work in the modern era? Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Satha-anan, a peacekeeper, gave his opinion to News Agency 101 that the creation of hatred in the modern era has changed from the rapidly changing technology. which has its own way of producing hatred to become enemies. which these things did not exist in the days of Ajarn Puey The problem that we have to do is that Santiprachatham may have to change by keeping the spirit, but the face, posture, and work methods may change in our era. Peace of mind is not just a method. But it also speaks of a fair society at the same time. Therefore, the link between goals and methods plays a very important role in the teacher's thinking [2] . peace can also be used in the modern era to be more in line with the era because of the principles of peace It still has a spirit of its own.
From the way of thinking to the practice to the prestigious award
past time It has been proven that the principles of Prof. Dr. Puey Eengphakorn on peace was put into practice and applied A concrete example is Adisorn Phuangchompoo, the owner of the famous shirt brand "Watermelon shirt", a shirt brand that teenagers in the 90s must know. Adisorn's factory has more than 1,000 employees. Less than 10 employees have resigned. Adisorn told the Santi Prachartham Award team that “In fact, the peace I took it to the factory. And I apply it to my working principles.”
Another interesting example is Khun Banjong Nasae, who is considered an important figure in Thai conservation. Known to be the first NGOs in Thailand, Banjong Nasae is considered an important person in Thai conservation. Which said to the team that "Ajarn Puey is a supporter. of my life too My life has been obsessed with social, structural, political problems. Puey is known to want to change society without violence. No need for armed forces to fight each other, Puey then established the Foundation for the Restoration of the Countryside, which made Banjong Nasae view that social change There are several methods It's not just the use of violence.” Banjong Nasae gave an important point of view that "Peace If anyone does not adhere to work, it will be very hot. because sometimes there is violence saw villagers killed I wanted to go and kill him. but because of the principles of peace it makes the heart have faith and solve problems in a peaceful manner.”
